Mary therefore took a pound of ointment of right spikenard, of great price, and anointed the feet of Jesus and wiped his feet with her hair. And the house was filled with the odour of the ointment. Then one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, he that was about to betray him, said: Why was not this ointment sold for three hundred pence and given to the poor? Now he said this not because he cared for the poor; but because he was a thief, having the purse, carried the things that were put therein. Jesus therefore said: Let her alone, that she may keep it against the day of my burial. For the poor you have always with you: but me you have not always.
------We have recently been given a very large amount of financial sponsorship to provide us with music for the monthly Masses. The deal is that, not including any 'unofficial' Masses for Holy Days, we have a monthly Mass 10 months out of 12. This funding covers 2/3rds of budget for half a years worth of High Masses. So, in simple terms, 2/3rds of 5 Masses. It is up to us to find the remaining 1/3rd for the year. At present the plan looks like we will have alternate Low/High Mass.
We will be able to find some of the money from the collections, but we also will be giving half of the collections to the priest of St Patrick's, seeing as how we have an obligation to support our pastors. And even then, a sizeable proportion of Juventutem London are penniless students. And the pair of us who organise this, we're just a couple of guys with no resources except for time and love.
If you thought that this was a prelude to asking for money, you were right. So:
Please Help Juventutem London Glorify God Through Sacred Music!

What is Juventuem London?
Juventutem London is a very exciting initiative taking place in, unsurprisingly, London. It is a part of the International Juventutem Federation, which is dedicated to the sanctification of the youth using the traditional forms of the sacraments - most obviously, the Traditional Latin Mass (also known as the 'Extraordinary Form' or the usus antiquior). There are no charges and no registration procedures for 'members' ('members' being anyone who comes along). We are in good standing with the archdiocese of Westminster, and are on good terms with Bishop Alan Hopes, with whom we have discussed our aims and objectives.
What Does It Do?
We have now reached our first anniversary - we were founded on a train on the way back from the Young Catholic Adults retreat at Douai Abbey in September 2011, and our first meeting was in November 2011. Since our inception, we have grown so much in size that we have had to move to a larger church, with hospitality facilities. Our Masses are, of course, open to all - but our socials are reserved for those aged 18-35.
We have very close ties with the Good Counsel Network, a crisis pregnancy service. All of our Masses are offered for their intentions.
Attracting Loads of Young People to the Old Rite
Many of our young members had never experienced the Traditional Latin Mass before coming to Juventutem London. Juventutem London has helped many young people to see the beauty of the traditional rite of Mass. We attract many, many young people of all ranges of experience of the old Mass, and still now people contact us to tell us that they will be coming along for the first time, wanting to know what to expect.
Why You Should Your Spend Money on Sacred Music
Our choir is made up of professional musicians, and is mandated to provide us with plainchant propers and a polyphonic ordinary. It is imperative that we have music of the highest standard at the Masses we organise for three reasons: 1) As a matter of justice, God deserves the best we can give him. 2) Our Lord makes clear in the Gospels that the service done to him by St Mary Magdalene was of more value than Judas Iscariot's suggestion of giving it to the poor. Elsewhere, Our Lord says to Mary's sister: "Martha, Martha, you are careful and troubled about many things: But one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the best part, which shall not be taken away from her" (Luke 10.41-42). Nothing sowed in the Sacred Liturgy will be wasted. 3) Beauty has an attractive power, that reveals the beauty of God to the young Catholics in the pews.
Only Regular High Mass in London
Currently, we are the only group who offer a regular Solemn High Mass in the archdiocese. Our intention was to have polyphony and chant every month, but our financial situation is such that we cannot afford to arrange this for more than once every two months. We also struggle to find the money for a chant Mass every month. However, our rule is to have a High Mass, which lest we forget is the normative form of the Mass, offered at least monthly in the capital city.
We Have Nothing to Offer You in Return
We can offer you nothing in return except our thanks, our prayers, and the knowledge that you have contributed to the greater glory of God through the use of beautiful sacred music. This is the perfect way to put Matthew 6.4 and Luke 14.14 into practice.
